Driving experience proved irrelevant for two impaired individuals pulled from the road by Sicamous RCMP.

The first incident occurred on Aug. 27 when police saw a vehicle being driven erratically on the Trans-Canada Highway Frontage Road.

"A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was found to have a Class 7 learner's licence," Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release, adding the officer noted signs of impairment while speaking with the driver.

A road side breath sample was taken, which resulted in the new driver receiving a three-day driving prohibition and having their vehicle impounded for three days.

Different circumstances resulted in the second stop just after 12 a.m. on Aug. 29 when a Sicamous officer stopped a driver on the Trans-Canada Highway for a sobriety check after noting the vehicle owner had a lengthy history of impaired driving. The stop confirmed the driver to be the owner.   

"A strong odour of liquor was noted on the driver's breath and a roadside breath demand was made which resulted in a fail," McNei said, noting that open alcohol containers were also found inside the vehicle.

The driver was given a 90-day suspension and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days. 

"A ticket was also issued to the driver for failing to have a required ignition interlock device installed from his previous impaired driving history," McNeil added.
