Update (July 29)

The wildfire in Dry Creek remains out-of-control, but hasn't increased in size. According to BC Wildfire Service, the fire remains at approximately 464 hectares. The last update was July 28, 3:19 p.m. The evacuation alert remains in effect.

There are currently 1 helicopter responding to this wildfire as well as personnel on the ground danger tree falling and removing fuels on the south to tie into existing guard. Machine guard construction along the Shelter FSR is being re-established. 

The ferry remains open at this time.  

Update:

The out of control wildfire in Dry Creek has grown to 249 hectares. 

It is suspected that the fire was caused by lightening. It was first discovered on July, 18. BC Wildfire Service updated the public about this fire on July, 23. 

Original: A wildfire in Dry Creek is out of control and an evacuation alert has been put in place for the area. 

The fire was first discovered on July 18. BC Wildfire Services has updated the status of the fire as of July 22, stating that it has grown to 150 hectares. 

An evacuation alert is issued for the following areas, Highway 23 South from Cranberry Creek to Shelter Bay, and Shelter Bay to 12km on the Shelter Bay Forest Service Road.

This evacuation alert is issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should an evacuation order be made. 

Dry Creek is approximately 35 kilometres south of the City of Revelstoke.
