Residents near Eastgate are free to return to their properties, as the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) has lifted an evacuation order that was activated Aug. 3, in response to the Calcite Creek wildfire.

The order was rescinded Aug. 21 at noon.

The fire, which was discovered July 18, is now being held at 6,684 hectares. It is no longer a wildfire of note, according to BC Wildfire Service.

On August 19, an evacuation alert issued to the Placer Lake and Eastgate areas was lifted. However, an area restriction which governs travel and visiting to the area surrounding the blaze, is still in place.

The RDOS has directed people returning to their properties to pick up re-entry packages at the Eastgate Volunteer Fire Department, 140 Airstrip Road.
