Extreme cold warning in effect on Okanagan highways for 3rd straight day

Four major Okanagan highways are facing extreme cold warnings for the third straight day on Saturday, Jan. 13 as temperatures could feel like -45C with the wind chill. (DriveBC)

For the third consecutive day, extreme cold warnings are in effect for four Okanagan highways.

At 4:31 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, Environment Canada extended warnings for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt and from Merritt to Kamloops, as well as the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna and the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.

All four highways could experience temperatures ranging between -25 C to -35 C but it could feel as low as -45 C because of the wind chill. Wind gusts could reach up t0 40 km/h, according to Environment Canada.

Temperatures are expected to warm up a few degrees on Sunday, with windy conditions not expecting to play as much of a factor.
