The Lower Campbell Creek wildfire east of Penticton saw no growth overnight and remains 223 hectares in size, as of Aug. 1.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said Thursday that the blaze is still categorized as out of control, nine days after it was discovered.

Heavy equipment is currently supporting 66 BCWS personnel on-site, the provincial service added. That's up from the 48 firefighters who were on scene Tuesday, July 30.

The blaze was first mapped on July 23, between Penticton and the communities of Carmi and Beaverdell. It grew by more than 10 times in size one day after it was discovered and has remained around 200 hectares ever since.

Evacuation alerts issued on July 24, remain in place for five properties within the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary: 75 Carmi Creek Forest Service Road, 6645 Highway 33 and the following Wilkinson Creek Forest Service Road addresses: 145, 200 and 380.

In its most recent update, BCWS says a machine guard along the south and east flank has been established, while crews work on a hose lay for the east flank. Structure protection crews are also on-site.

As it has throughout the week, one helicopter is assigned to the blaze and will be made available to support crews on Thursday night.
