Numerous tips resulted in an impaired driver being taken off the road, but not before the vehicle hit the ditch.

On Aug. 26 the Sicamous RCMP received multiple calls of a blue Ford Escape being driven erratically on Highway 97A heading north from Grindrod. An officer located the SUV driving along the rock faces north of Swansea Point, and turned around to stop the vehicle.

"As the officer turned his car, the driver of the Ford Escape drove off the road into the northbound ditch," Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release. "The driver had no explanation for his driving and he was noted to be under the influence of prescription drugs which affected his ability to drive."

The driver was given a 24 hour suspension, and the SUV was towed from the scene.
