Summerland Credit Union launches Wage Equity Initiative

Initiative was created to address pay disparities

The Summerland and District Credit Union is launching its Wage Equity Initiative.

The initiative coincides with International Women害羞草研究所檚 Day on March 8. It was created to emphasize the credit union害羞草研究所檚 dedication to fostering gender equality and fair pay practices within the financial industry and beyond.

The Wage Equity Initiative addresses systemic disparities in compensation and opportunities faced by minorities in the workforce. The Summerland and District Credit Union is urging other credit unions and organizations to join their cause and sign the pledge for wage equity.

害羞草研究所淎t Summerland Credit Union, we believe employees who have similar roles and responsibilities should be treated equally and compensated the same for doing similar work,害羞草研究所 said Kelly Marshall, chief executive officer and president of the Summerland Credit Union.

The initiative invites organizations to pledge their commitment to pay equity and take proactive measures to avoid wage gaps. By signing the pledge, organizations signal their dedication to fostering inclusive workplaces where all employees are valued and compensated fairly for their contributions.

Summerland and District Credit Union has also announced that the first year of participation will be complimentary for all organizations.

Those who sign the pledge will receive a pledge package, including media tools and a certificate of commitment to wage equity.

The credit union害羞草研究所檚 goal is to empower employers and employees to champion wage equity.

While efforts have been made towards improving wage equity, there are still pay differences in Canada, said Joshua McKay, vice-president of marketing and communications at the Summerland and District Credit Union.

害羞草研究所淒espite making significant progress in this area, there is still a ways to go,害羞草研究所 he said. He added that there is a 26 per cent pay gap between women and men in Canada.
