A Princeton man is scheduled to appear in Penticton court, July 23, to move along a trial for the alleged assault of a local doctor.

Trevor Rhyno was charged in August 2022, following an incident at Princeton General Hospital during the pandemic.

He is charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm

Witnesses in previous testimony, in Princeton circuit court, stated they saw Rhyno strike Dr. Andrew Ashley outside of the emergency room doors, after he was denied access to the facility because he refused to wear a mask, under COVID conditions.

The trial was eventually adjourned to further dates in Penticton, at the request of defence counsel.

On November 16, 2023, Ashley testified that he was assaulted, while two other hospital workers, including a nurse, said they observed a violent confrontation.

Ashley required immediate surgery following the alleged incident, it was stated in court.
